Kevin versus three Tories; the contest in Westborough

There will be effectively three Tory candidates in Westborough this year. The official Conservative candidate will be Neil Austin, fresh from his failure to impress in Kursaal last year. Dr Marimuthu Velmurugan, officially from the Independent Group, describes himself as ‘Conservative minded’. Neil Monnery, who has recently announced his candidature, is the Liberal Democrat’s choice. Neil is Tweedledum to the Conservatives Tweedledee, to paraphrase Graham Longley from the last General Election.

This leaves Kevin Robinson as the only sensible alternative.

Westborough is one of only two wards in Southend-on-Sea where the Conservative Party is not first or second (the other being St.Luke’s). Labour were second here last year.

Labour’s recent record in Westborough ward:

2011 – 2nd (out of 5)
2010 – 3rd (7)
2008 – 4th ( 6)
2007 – 3rd (4)
2006 – 3rd (5)
2004 – 4th (4)
2003 – 2nd (6)
2002 – 1st (5)

  1. Pingback: So a Labour candidate says I am a Tory and Tweedledum. I do love negative politics....

  2. Last time I checked, the Liberal Democrats were a different party to the Conservatives. Going into coalition with Labour in Scotland and Wales didn’t turn them into Labour, did it now? Do some fact checking, next time.

“This leaves Kevin Robinson as the only sensible alternative” – well that’s convenient considering he’s the Labour candidate isn’t it?
